200 years of avant-garde is what sums up le Grand-Hornu. An old mining site representing 19th century industry at only an hour from Brussels, the result of a true city project. It is a remarkable complex, set up in a neoclassical style, and consists of the industrial mining complex, the workers' estate and the managers' living accommodations. The Grand-Hornu is recognised as exceptional heritage of Wallonia and participates actively to international preservation programmes. The historical visit is completed by temporary exhibitions on design, applied arts (in the renovated rooms), and contemporary art (at the museum that opened in 2002). Delve into hostorical memory and contemporary projects all at the same time.
