This is an Art Nouveau bourgeois home, a very fashionable style at the time. René Magritte's father had it built in 1911, considering that his family home should reflect his social rank. Magritte indeed spent his childhood in this beautiful, opulent house. At the time, he learned how to paint and exhibited for the first time there. The interior architecture is still the same as in Magritte's days, with its parquetry, its balustrades and two magnificent fireplaces. The kitchen walls are completely covered with Bouffioulx faience tiles that are today impossible to find elsewhere and which make this kitchen an exceptional room.
