These festivities start with the Kappensitzung, (preliminary carnival sessions) and the Thursday of women (preceding the "gras days") which will signal the beginning of the happy events as well as the commencement of the Prince Carnival's power over the town (following him being presented with the keys to the town). The grand procession takes place mainly over Monday Gras and is also known as "Rosenmontag" or "Lundi des Roses", (Rose Monday), (where, according to tradition, paper roses are strewn along the route of the procession). The float of Prince Carnival, Master of Ceremonies, is the main feature of the parade. The festival ends on Mardi Gras when Prince Carnival returns the keys of the town to the proper local authorities.
